Press Briefing on the Secure Zambia: Uniting Against Crime (SZUAC) Campaign
Members of the Press and the General Public,
We are here today to provide an important update on the Secure Zambia: Uniting Against Crime (SZUAC) Campaign, a nationwide crime reduction initiative aimed at making Zambia a safer place for all.
Before proceeding, we extend our deepest appreciation to Mr President Hakainde Hichilema, the President of the Republic of Zambia for his strong stance against crime and his support for this initiative. His leadership in prioritizing security and public safety strengthens our resolve to make this campaign a success.
We also thank the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, the Inspector General of Police, and the entire Zambia Police Service for their continuous support. The guidance and cooperation we have received from these institutions, along with our other collaborating partner security agencies have been instrumental in ensuring the success of this campaign.
The Secure Zambia: Uniting Against Crime (SZUAC) Campaign under the theme Crime Ends With Me is a non-political, nationwide initiative designed to complement the government’s efforts in combating all forms of crime.
When we say this campaign is non-political, we mean that it does not serve any political party or agenda. Instead, it is a national movement for all Zambians, focused on securing our communities through crime awareness, community engagement, and collaboration with security institutions.
The campaign officially launches on 22nd May 2025 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, and entry is FREE for all. This event will mark the beginning of a coordinated effort to engage law enforcement, traditional and community leaders, civil society, and the general public in the fight against crime.
The SZUAC campaign will be implemented through various activities aimed at raising awareness, mobilizing communities, and strengthening crime prevention efforts. These activities include:
Public Gatherings, Rallies, Road Walks, Seminars & Workshops
These activities will ensure that Zambians in all districts and provinces are reached and actively engaged in crime prevention efforts.
Crime affects everyone, and this campaign is open to all age groups, including:
School Learners, Youth & Young Adults, Adults and Elderly
It is our vision that this campaign also reaches schools so that young learners are educated on crime awareness and prevention. While we are not yet in formal discussions with the Ministry of Education, we recognize that young people play a crucial role in shaping a crime-free future.
As the campaign progresses, we intend to explore ways to engage school-going children through special outreach programs, interactive sessions, and learning activities that will equip them with the knowledge to make informed decisions and stay away from crime.
This campaign is structured around 3 key focus areas, which will guide its implementation across Zambia:
i. Raise Public Awareness: Educate the public about the dangers of crime, personal safety, vigilancy and the importance of adhering to the rule of law.
ii. Community Engagement: Encourage local communities to actively participate in crime prevention initia-tives and report criminal activities.
iii. Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with key law enforcement agencies, civil society organizations, public and private institutions, traditional and community leaders, and individuals to strengthen crime prevention strategies.
The fight against crime is not just a government responsibility—it requires the participation of every Zambian. We are calling on individuals, businesses, organizations, and communities to stand with us in this campaign. Call to action - Join the Movement

As I conclude, allow me to thank Mr. President Hakainde Hichilema, the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, the Inspector General of Police, the Zambia Police Service, and all our security and community collaborating partners for their ongoing support in making this campaign a reality. This campaign belongs to all Zambians, and together, we have the power to reduce crime, strengthen security, and create a safer future.
With law enforcement, intelligence, community involvement, and strategic planning, we can build a Zambia where safety, peace, and justice prevail.
We urge all Zambians to be part of this movement because crime ends with us!
