STOP VANDALISM TO ZESCO CABLES IT AFFECTS OUR BUSINESSES .
For the last two years, Zambia has faced the harsh reality of loadshedding. It hasn't been easy; it has been a painful time for every household and business.
While the government and ZESCO work tirelessly to invest in alternative energy and stabilize the grid, there is another "darkness" we must fight together: Vandalism.
Every year, Zesco Limited loses millions of Kwacha to the theft and destruction of installations. This isn't just a loss for a company, it’s a loss for you and me. That money should be used to expand the grid and bring power to "the new guy" waiting for a connection. Instead, it’s spent replacing what was already there.
But the cost isn't just financial. It’s human.
Imagine your loved one in the ICU, relying on a ventilator to breathe, and the power cuts because someone stole a cable.
Imagine a neighborhood plunged into darkness for weeks because a transformer was drained of oil.
Vandalism is a crime against our community. It’s a threat to our lives.
As the Zambia Association of Musicians - ZAM, we have partnered with Zesco Limited and the National Arts Council of Zambia on a project called Youth Action Against Vandalism - YAAV Zambia. We are calling on every Zambian to be the eyes and ears of our community.
I am Edmond Mbanga Miti Jr., also known as Cray Jay - Chipe, and I’m asking you to join the fight. If you see something, say something. Report vandalism to your nearest police station immediately.
"Cut the crime, not the power! Vandalizing ZESCO installations hurts Zambia, not just the grid."
