Legal Terms Explained Simply: What Is Conveyancing?
“Conveyancing” is one of those legal terms many people hear during a property transaction without fully understanding what it actually means.
Simply put, conveyancing is the legal process of transferring property ownership from one person to another.
It involves preparing legal documents, completing compliance checks, working with banks, SARS and municipalities, and lodging the transfer at the Deeds Office.
While clients often only see the signing stage, there’s usually a significant amount of legal and administrative work happening behind the scenes to ensure the transfer is completed correctly.
A properly managed conveyancing process helps protect all parties involved and ensures the property is legally transferred and recorded.
At Holford Jones Attorneys, conveyancing is a core part of what we do, and we aim to keep the process as clear and manageable as possible for our clients.
