BUSINESS ACUMEN - A SKILL EVERY LAWYER MUST HAVE (2)

RECOGNIZING TIMES AND SEASONS IN PRACTICE.

1. Knowing when to stay consistent no matter the challenges you are facing.

SIGNS: The Future relevance of what you are doing determines your success in life. You cannot stay consistent in something that is fast losing relevance and expect to be successful. some practice areas are slowly losing relevance, your persistence is an invitation to hunger without knowing. Check the present demands of what you call an area of specialization, analyze why people (the public) are opting for the alternatives.

2. Knowing when to add knowledge to knowledge: You must be able to recognize that the challenges you are facing is not the wickedness of your village people, but your limited knowledge/expertise in your area of practice.

SIGNS: if you are in a practice area where many people are succeeding and you are not, then there is something you are not doing right. You simply need to find out what it is. This is where knowledge and capacity building comes in. You need to increase the knowledge of what you are doing. Nothing will grow under your care, if you as an individual is not evolving. My personal slogan in practice management has always been "Grow the Lawyer, Grow the firm".

3. Knowing when to give up and try other practice areas or other things.

BUSINESS ACUMEN - A SKILL EVERY LAWYER MUST HAVE.

Business Acumen is the ability to differentiate between 3 phases of Career and Business.

1. Ability to Know when to stay consistent no matter the challenges you face.

2. Ability to recognize when to add knowledge to knowledge. You must be able to recognize that the challenges you are facing is not the wickedness of your village people, but your limited knowledge/expertise in your area of practice.

3. Ability to acknowledge when to give up and try other practice areas or other things.

So how do you recognize the season that you are in?

Legal practice is not all about personal injuries and litigation.

There are other practice areas that can put serious money in your pocket. You just need to stretch yourself.

Explore and train up! Spend money to access proper training in those areas.You use money to make money. TIME, MONEY, COMFORT and sometimes HUNGER is the price we pay in the school of Success.

Everything is not about RAF, DIVORCE and MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE, start there but don't get stuck there.

BRANCH OUT OR DRY OUT - the choice is yours...

Whoever has treated you badly in the past, God ensures that you are positioned to eventually help them when you finally get to where God has ordained for you.

You will not need to manipulate any event for that to happen. Things have a way of happening, the tide has a way of turning. it is what we called "the dynamics of life".

I will say, hold no grudge and seek no platform to get back at anyone....life will happen, it always does, and when it does, just don't be like those who try to break you.

Time flies, Season change, No condition is permanent. The picture hereunder says it all..

When someone show up in your office for consultation among other services, normalise asking them how they hear about you or your practice.

If they said they were referred by someone, ask them the name of the person. Make sure you call those people and thank them.

If the client found you through your social media contents, make sure you intensify more on your activities on social media to attract more clients.

Whatever is working well for your practice, is what you must keep working on.

The mistake that many of us make is, we abandon what has been working for us, and start looking for what is not lost...

May the lord open your eyes early to see what is working for you.
