President Cyril Ramaphosa terminates the National State of Disaster, 750 days after the declaration on 15 March 2020 - which empowered the government to take the measures that prevented many more people from becoming severely ill and saved countless lives.

“Since the requirements for a National State of Disaster to be declared in terms of the Disaster Management Act are no longer met, Cabinet has decided to terminate the National State of Disaster with effect from midnight tonight.

The Disaster Management Act provides that certain elements of the regulations may remain in place for a limited period for ‘post-disaster recovery and rehabilitation’.

Accordingly certain transitional provisions will remain in place for a period of 30 days after the termination of the National State of Disaster to ensure essential public health precautions and other necessary services are not interrupted while the new regulations in terms of the National Health Act come into effect.,”.

PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA STATED THE FOLLOWING:

*We are now able to ease restrictions even further.

*MASKS:* Still compulsory indoors. Not outdoors,

*SOCIAL DISTANCING:* Reduced to ONE METRE

*GATHERINGS:* Up to 50% of capacity, subject to proof of vaccination, or tests

*FUNERALS:* Now allowed 200. . Still no after tears.

*TRAVELLERS:* Travellers entering SA must show proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test that is no older than 72 Hours. All travellers into the country will be offered vaccines if they so wish.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the extension of Alert Level 4 lockdown for another 14 days (until 25 July 2021), with some changes to the current restrictions.

These changes include:

⚠️ Restaurants and other eateries may reopen. Such establishments may not accommodate more than 50 people at a time or, for smaller venues, more than 50% of their normal capacity.

⚠️ Schools to reopen on 26 July.

⚠️ Gyms and fitness centres may reopen.

⚠️ Alcohol sales on-site or off-site consumption remains prohibited.

⚠️ The curfew is still in place from 21:00 - 04:00.

The Unemployment Insurance Fund has decided to extend the Covid-19 TERS scheme to businesses that have been impacted by the adjusted level 4 lockdown. The full details of the businesses and sectors that qualify will be published in a gazette shortly.
