If you've lost a loved one in the period since the covid-19 pandemic started, there is a good chance that on top of the bereavement you've also had to suffer added trauma caused by the Cape Town Master's Office. This very important organization that falls under the Department of Justice is now so inefficient that deceased estates are simply not being being wound up. As legal practitioners we battle every day to get responses from the officials there. Emails and letters go unanswered and it's not possible to gain access to the building due to draconian covid-19 restrictions still imposed there. Something has to happen but the Department of Justice seems powerless to do anything.

However, the government institutions we rely on for service are barely functional at present. We apologize in advance for any delays you may experience as a result of this state of affairs.
