Confined girl forced to abort: Police report
HYDERABAD: A 20-year-old woman from the Old City was not only confined for 17 months against her will but also forced to undergo an abortion and shifted secretly to several places, a report from the city police commissioner's office said.

In a letter to the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), the police said that accused Satya Prakash Singh, who is accused of

allegedly confined the woman against her will and sexually assaulted her, also confessed to his crime.

The police changed the nature of the case from 'girl missing' and booked the case under the Nirbhaya Act and charged him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to kidnapping, r**e, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation.

"During the course of the investigation on September 5, the accused was taken into custody and he was thoroughly interrogated before mediators, where he voluntarily confessed that he had committed the above offence," the report said.

He was later sent to the department of forensic medicine for a potency test.

The letter went on to say that on September 19, Singh confirmed the places where he had confined the girl against her will and that she was forced to undergo abortion in confinement.

South Zone police is currently gathering evidence against Singh's family members and friends, they said. The victim had alleged that constables from Meerpet police station had misbehaved with her after neighbours had alerted the police when they heard the victim's cries.

"The investigating officer (IO) is collecting evidences against family members, friends of the accused and the doctors who conducted abortion, and the three police personnel who allegedly misbehaved with the victim, to ascertain their involvement in this case and action will be taken accordingly as per findings of the investigation," the report said.

Meanwhile, a source from SHRC said that the office of Hyderabad district collector MK Meena had failed to respond to the commission's notice seeking clarification on action taken by the district administration in the case. A second reminder has been sent, the source added.

It was earlier reported in these columns that the victim was given Rs 25,000 as the first installment of Rs 50,000 ex-gratia by the District Women and Child Development Agency. Another Rs 25,000 would be released after completion of investigation.

Bother now or bother not! (spare a moment | read the details)

Educated India governed by the principles of democracy, secularism & women equality will not succumb to the forces of anti-social elements trying to tear the harmony of one city after another, nor will it hesitate to ensure that the beasts prevailing in the society are slaughtered judicially.
