The more popular Vietnam becomes, the more active scammers get. Vietnamese authorities have warned that numerous fake websites have appeared online, pretending to be the official e-Visa application service.

❗️The official e-Visa can only be applied for through government websites with the .gov.vn domain. If you’re not sure whether a website is genuine, it’s better not to risk your money and personal data.

In popular tourist cities, checks of foreigners have become more frequent. Police are checking documents, residence registration, and the validity of permitted stays.

💁🏼‍♀️A recent example is Nha Trang. During a surprise inspection of two guesthouses, police detained six Nigerian nationals who had overstayed their visas by more than a year. All of them had entered Vietnam back in 2024 and, for some reason, decided not to do a visa run. The result: each was fined 35,000,000vnd, after which the foreigners will be deported from Vietnam.

📌A reminder: an overstay doesn’t start after a month or a year — even one day after your visa or visa-free stay expires is already a violation.

💸 Overstay fines:
• up to 16 days: from 500.000 to 2.000.000vnd;
• 16–29 days: 5.000.000 – 10.000.000vnd;
• 30–59 days: 10.000.000 – 15.000.000vnd;
• 60–89 days: 15.000.000 – 20.000.000vnd;
• 90–179 days: 20.000.000 – 25.000.000vnd;
• 180 days to 1 year: 25.000.000 – 30.000.000vnd;
• 1 year or more: 30.000.000 – 40.000.000vnd.

✍🏼The vast majority of overstays lasting more than two months result in lengthy entry bans. Moreover, medical certificates stating that the overstay was caused by illness do not help: if the person was conscious and able to act, they were expected to legally extend their stay. At this point, paying a fine will not be enough — they will have to leave the country. (The circular “On the procedure for implementing measures to temporarily suspend the right to exit and deny entry”).

⚠️ Landlords can also be held responsible. Failing to register foreign tenants, concealing violators, or helping them stay in the country can result in fines of 1,000,000 to 15,000,000vnd or criminal liability. In the case mentioned above, the landlords were fined a total of 61,500,000vnd.

📅 So make sure to check the expiration date of your permitted stay in Vietnam, save it in your calendar, and plan your next visa run in advance.

🟢 On Saturday, August 22, the Immigration Department will operate as usual.

You’ve probably already seen videos and posts on social media about mass checks of foreigners in Da Nang. We looked into the situation in more detail and explain what is actually happening.

Authorities have launched a nationwide campaign to combat drugs. Similar checks are taking place in various tourist cities across Vietnam (so far, information has been confirmed in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Mui Ne): police are inspecting apartments, guesthouses, dormitories, businesses, and streets throughout the cities as part of a national program to create drug-free neighborhoods and communes, with the goal of making Vietnam drug-free by 2030. The program was initiated by Vietnam’s leadership, led by the Government and the Ministry of Public Security, with the support of the Communist Party leadership.

What does this mean for foreigners?
Such checks may affect any tourist or expat — at home, on the street, or at an establishment. Law enforcement officers may check your documents and temporary residence registration and, if there is suspicion of drug use, conduct a rapid drug test.

😌 The only people who need to panic are those who are violating immigration laws or using, possessing, or distributing drugs. If everything is in order with your legal status, there is no need to worry. Just keep your identification documents at hand, keep track of your legal stay period, and follow the officers’ instructions.

If a rapid drug test comes back positive, an individual may face a warning or a fine of 1–2 million VND for illegal drug use. In addition, since July 1, 2026, information about a positive test is passed to the local police and the offender may be placed under preventive monitoring for one year. More serious consequences — criminal prosecution and imprisonment — apply in cases provided for by law, including illegal possession of drugs in quantities reaching the criminal threshold. For foreigners, depending on the nature of the violation, deportation may also be considered.

👶 Vietnam introduces new child car safety rules.

We've looked into the new regulations and here's what we've found.

📌 Starting August 15, 2026, drivers transporting children under 10 years old and shorter than 135 cm must use an appropriate child restraint system (a child car seat or booster seat). During the initial enforcement period, drivers without one will receive an official warning instead of a fine.

The existing rule prohibiting children who meet these criteria from riding in the front passenger seat (if the vehicle has rear seats) already carries a fine of 800,000–1,000,000 VND. These new requirements are aimed at improving child safety and bringing Vietnam's road safety standards closer to international practice.

🚕 What about taxis? The requirement to use child restraint systems does not apply to commercial passenger transport, including taxis. However, if you're traveling around Vietnam in a rental car with children, it's a good idea to arrange a child car seat in advance.

🛂 How to get a 90-day vietnam visa with VISARUNVIET: a step-by-step guide 👇

1️⃣ Contact & Booking
Message our manager with your nationality and let us know whether you're currently in Vietnam or outside the country. If you're in Vietnam, we'll ask for the date of your visa run. If you're outside Vietnam, we'll ask for: your planned entry date, when you last visited Vietnam. The cost of applying for a visa depends on these parameters.

2️⃣ Preparation of documents
To apply for your visa, we'll need:
1. Your contact details: email address and phone number.
2. A photo of your passport (full open spread showing both pages, with no fingers covering it).
3. A passport-style photo on a white background without glasses (a high-quality selfie is also acceptable).
4. Information about any previous violations of Vietnamese immigration laws (if you have none, simply let us know).
If you're currently outside Vietnam, please also send us a photo of your latest exit stamp from Vietnam together with your application. During the visa run, please send a photo of your exit stamp to the manager immediately after crossing the border.

3️⃣ Obtaining a visa
Once your visa is ready:
📩 you'll first receive an email from Vietnam Immigration;
📩 then you'll receive a confirmation email from our team.
Be sure to check your Spam, Promotions, and other email folders, as the messages may end up there.

4️⃣ Crossing the border
At most land border checkpoints and airports, it's enough to show your visa on your phone to the immigration officer.
❗️Exception: Moc Bai (applies to visa runs from Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City, Mui Ne, and Nha Trang to Cambodia). At this border crossing, officers always require a printed copy of your visa (you can print it near the checkpoint).

5️⃣ After entering Vietnam, make sure to check the date on your entry stamp.
Do not leave immigration until you've confirmed that the date in your passport matches your visa. If the error is discovered after a few days, it will be very difficult to fix it.
