The general manager of Punta del Este Airport, Guillermo Pagés, highlighted that the last season saw widespread growth in air traffic, driven by the addition of new destinations and a significant increase in private aviation.
He indicated that the results for November, December, and January, considered the peak season, were positive both in terms of passenger volume and visitor profile. In particular, private flights increased by 30% compared to the previous season.
"Beyond passenger volume, we see significant activity in executive aviation, reflecting a type of visitor with a greater economic impact on the destination," he noted.
Regarding scheduled flights, Azul Líneas Aéreas will continue operating flights between Punta del Este and São Paulo, with frequencies on Thursdays and Sundays, primarily geared towards tourism and events. Furthermore, Buenos Aires will continue to be connected year-round, solidifying its position as one of the main source markets. Pagés also reported on a strategic meeting with the Minister of Tourism, Pablo Menoni, the National Deputy Director of Tourism, Cristian Pos, the Director of Tourism for Maldonado, Edgar Silveira, and representatives from the airline Gol Linhas Aéreas, who visited the destination to analyze its potential within the regional network.
In this context, the previous experience of the São Paulo–Buenos Aires route with a technical stop in Punta del Este was highlighted. This route helped position the resort on the regional map, generate visibility, and provide seats in a market facing demographic challenges in sustaining year-round routes.
