The general manager of Punta del Este Airport, Guillermo Pagés, highlighted that the last season saw widespread growth in air traffic, driven by the addition of new destinations and a significant increase in private aviation.

He indicated that the results for November, December, and January, considered the peak season, were positive both in terms of passenger volume and visitor profile. In particular, private flights increased by 30% compared to the previous season.

"Beyond passenger volume, we see significant activity in executive aviation, reflecting a type of visitor with a greater economic impact on the destination," he noted.
Regarding scheduled flights, Azul Líneas Aéreas will continue operating flights between Punta del Este and São Paulo, with frequencies on Thursdays and Sundays, primarily geared towards tourism and events. Furthermore, Buenos Aires will continue to be connected year-round, solidifying its position as one of the main source markets. Pagés also reported on a strategic meeting with the Minister of Tourism, Pablo Menoni, the National Deputy Director of Tourism, Cristian Pos, the Director of Tourism for Maldonado, Edgar Silveira, and representatives from the airline Gol Linhas Aéreas, who visited the destination to analyze its potential within the regional network.

In this context, the previous experience of the São Paulo–Buenos Aires route with a technical stop in Punta del Este was highlighted. This route helped position the resort on the regional map, generate visibility, and provide seats in a market facing demographic challenges in sustaining year-round routes.

Right on Montevideo's waterfront promenade, between the Río de la Plata and the buildings, stands this incredible tree 🌲 It's over 100 years old and more than 30 meters tall, growing steadily towards the sky. It's an araucaria, a species that adapts very well to wind and salt, which has allowed it to thrive even in this coastal environment. When it was planted, Pocitos was very different: low-rise houses, gardens, and much more greenery. Over time, the buildings came... but it remained. Today, it's declared a site of departmental interest and is one of the city's protected plant species. 👉 A living piece of old Montevideo. 💬 Had you seen it? Photo by Eddie Enea

LA CUEVA DEL PATO, PUNTA FRÍA, PIRIÁPOLIS
Francisco Piria didn't just build a resort; he designed a precision logistical system. One of his best-kept secrets for the "Tea Service" at the Hotel Piriápolis was the origin of its mineral water.

The Duck Fountain (or Virgin's Fountain): Located on the ascent to Cerro San Antonio (on the way to the Virgin's viewpoint from Punta Fría), this spring was promoted by Piria as one of the city's five mineral springs. Don Francisco, convinced of the hill's volcanic origin, believed this spot was one of the vents of the ancient "Englishman's Hill" volcano.
Engineering and Oral Tradition:
The Mechanism: Originally, the fountain featured a bronze duck from whose mouth water flowed continuously.
Zanuy's Transport: José "Josecito" Zanuy and his brother (the first train guard) recounted how they carried the water down from the fountain in demijohns to load it onto railway cars. These water channels flowed along the narrow-gauge tracks that skirted the coast to the hotel, ensuring a supply of fresh water for European tourists.
The Mystique of Punta Fría: Longtime residents like Doña Pura (who lived there until she was 100) and the García-Ríos family remember how the spring sustained the neighborhood before running water arrived in the 1950s.
Current State: Although the grotto has been altered and the flow is low due to a lack of filter maintenance and vandalism, the site remains the cornerstone of Piriápolis (laid in 1902). It is a place of profound spiritual significance for mystics and an exceptional viewpoint overlooking Punta Fría.
