If a settlement check shows up fast after a wreck, be careful. Fast is rarely the same as fair.

Early offers often land before anyone knows the full picture. Before the delayed pain shows up. Before you know whether that sore shoulder needs an MRI or just some rest. And most settlements come with a release, a document that closes your claim for good.

Once you sign it, you’re done. If the injury turns out worse than it first looked, you can’t go back for more.

There’s no prize for settling first. Make sure you actually understand your injuries before you sign anything that ends the conversation.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a good reminder that not every injury is one you can see.

When people picture recovering from a car wreck, they think about the physical stuff. The X-rays, the therapy, the sore neck. What surprises them is the rest of it. The nerves behind the wheel. The trouble sleeping. The short temper. The weight of bills that showed up out of nowhere.

That’s real. It isn’t weakness, and it isn’t in your head. It’s what the body and mind do after something frightening.

If you’re carrying that after an accident, take it as seriously as the physical healing. Talk to someone. Lean on your people. You don’t have to tough it out alone.

The insurance adjuster who calls after your accident is going to be friendly. That’s not an accident either.

Being nice is part of the job. A warm, helpful voice puts you at ease, and people at ease say more, settle faster, and ask fewer questions. None of that works in your favor.

Worth remembering one simple thing: that adjuster works for the insurance company, not for you. The goal on their end is to close your claim for as little as possible.

You can be just as polite right back and still be careful. You don’t have to give a recorded statement. You don’t have to take the first offer. And you’re always allowed to say “let me get back to you” before you agree to anything.

Thinking about just paying that ticket? That's actually admitting guilt, and your insurance company will know.

You felt fine at the scene. Three days later you can barely turn your neck.

That’s not unusual. After a crash, adrenaline hides a lot, and injuries like whiplash, back strain, and concussions often show up a day or two later. People brush it off because they don’t want a medical bill, they’ve got to get to work, or they don’t want to seem dramatic.

Here’s the thing. Waiting doesn’t just risk your health. A gap between the crash and your first doctor’s visit is the exact thing an insurance company points to when it wants to argue you weren’t really hurt.

If you were in a wreck, get checked out, even if you think you’re okay. It’s better for your body, and it’s better for you if questions come up down the road.

Never had a license, or driving on a revoked one, aren't the same charge. One's usually a simple fine. The other can mean real fines and even jail time.

We are proud to sponsor such a great event!!

On Thursday, October 1, 2026 River Landing annual Azalea Golf Classic. It’s the first celebration in a year that will lead us all the way to the 80th North Carolina Azalea Festival, April 7–11, 2027.

It’s a day for a little friendly competition, plenty of connection, and enjoying one of North Carolina’s most beautiful courses. Whether you’re here to win, make a few new connections, or simply enjoy a great day with friends, we think it’s a pretty wonderful way to begin this milestone year.

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and if you’ve ever been in either of our offices, you already know where we stand on this one.

Nelson runs the front desk in Wilmington. Winston, our bulldog, holds down Leland. Between the two of them, they’ve probably calmed more nervous clients over the years than we have.

Every good dog deserves a home like that. If you’ve got room in yours, our local shelters and rescues are full of future best friends waiting on someone exactly like you.

Adopt if you can. Foster if you can’t. Share this if you know someone looking.
