Change up post today: FDL's leathersmiths are career firemen. This means we make products that work for the job. Most of our designs have been refined over the years based on not only our own experience but from our department's collective experience and suggestions from customers. When we meet someone rocking our stuff, the first question we ask is: are you happy? The second question we ask: what do you feel can be better? First and foremost we want our products to make your job easier. We want to produce good looking leather but if it isn't effective and durable, then it's just a fashion accessory. Our philosophy has always been that we make tools, just like a Halligan or a hook. Why are our Glove Straps not 1.5" wide with velcro, painted names and bedazzled studs? Because velcro wears out, a wider strap is a bigger snag hazard, no more effective at holding your gloves securely and the other stuff is just 'show' that adds cost. When we developed the Sawyer Sling, we gave it to our busiest Truck Co. They apologized after they managed to break it. We said, "No apologies, you did exactly what we needed." and went back to work on the design. This is the FDL approach and it's kept us rolling for over 10 years.
