Congress voted yesterday to NOT cut federal research funding for FY 2012! This is a huge victory! We all know that new ways to fight cancer are being developed everyday. We can't afford NOT TO continue funding for these vital research programs, and thankfully our legislaotrs know this!! BUT this will not be the end of the fight to maintain research funding, so stay tuned.

A few dedicated volunteers met at the ACS office in Williston last night to share our cancer stories and talk about how we can make the largest impact here in Vermont on the fight against cancer. We realized that the cancer community, thousands of us in VT, have more power than any of us imagined. That power doesn't come from getting a legislative tool kit or facts and statistics about cancer in Vermont... OUR POWER is in each of OUR experiences with cancer. The greatest power to fight cancer is right with in us all, and it is a story we know well becuase it is OUR story! Maybe you didn't think that your story was significant, but we think EVERY story is! Maybe you are not ready to share your experience in a paper, or to make a phone call to your legislator. Maybe you didn't think anyone cared what you had to say and what you have endured. We care! Other survivors, caregivers, and patients care! Would you consider sharing your story with us, right here on Facebook?

This Thanksgiving, let us all be thankful for friends, family, and life saving cancer research that has made it possible for over 2000 of us in VT, and millions across America, to say we are SURVIVORS! Best wishes to you and yours.
