Technology is most effective when the people who use it have a voice in how it evolves.

While at CFS, NATCA Southwest Region members had the opportunity to connect with industry partners, see new technology firsthand, and share the experiences and needs of the controllers who use these tools every day.

These conversations are an important part of working together to develop technology that supports controllers, strengthens our operation, and helps us continue our mission of keeping the National Airspace System safe.

Thank you to our industry partners for listening, collaborating, and giving our members a seat at the table.

While at CFS, NATCA Southwest Region members had the opportunity to connect with our airline partners and they all shared one unified message for our Southwest Region air traffic controllers: THANK YOU!
Pilots from American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines took a moment to recognize the incredible work you do day in and day out to keep the National Airspace System moving safely.

Your professionalism, dedication, and commitment do not go unnoticed. Hearing directly from the pilots on the other side of the frequency is a powerful reminder of the partnership that keeps our skies safe.

From their flight decks to our facilities, thank you for everything you do!

In a recent interview with WABE, Atlanta’s NPR and PBS affiliate, NATCA President Nick Daniels shed light on how morale is being affected as air traffic controllers wait for the FAA to implement the 2.8% raise appropriated by Congress earlier this year.

“They should not be asked to work harder,” said Nick Daniels. “They ran 57,000 operations on a single day in the month of July, the largest in American history, and that is understaffed and absolutely overworked,” he added. “Morale is extremely low.”

The FAA and NATCA have met several times and exchanged communications but have not reached an agreement. This raise is long overdue, and it's more than deserved. Our Union continues to advocate for our members to ensure they get the recognition and compensation that Congress intended for them.

No controller starts their shift with the expectation that the equipment will fail them, but when it does they display professionalism and skill.

They will tell you that they were simply doing their job, but exceptional work deserves recognition.

With our largest delegation in a decade, Southwest Region members came together at Communicating For Safety ready to connect, learn, engage, and lead.
We showed up early and stayed late. We listened to keynote speakers, learned from panelists, engaged with industry partners and vendors in the exhibit hall, met with the Agency, and connected with our Union brothers and sisters from across the country.

CFS is about more than the conversations that happen in the room. It’s about bringing people together, sharing experiences and ideas, strengthening relationships, and taking what we learn back home to make our Union and our workforce better.

We came to connect.
We came to learn.
We leave ready to lead.

When mechanical trouble and worsening weather closed in on a small aircraft at once, the difference between disaster and a safe landing came down to resourceful teamwork. At the Archie League Medal of Safety Award Banquet during Communicating For Safety 2026, Houston Center (ZHU) controllers Matthew Albrecht, Kenneth Almeter, and Theresa Juhl were honored for finding an unconventional way through the weather and guiding the pilot safely down. Their creativity and coordination turned a dangerous situation into a safe outcome.

NATCA Southwest Regional Vice President John Bratcher presented Matthew Albrecht, Kenneth Almeter, and Theresa Juhl with the Archie League Medal of Safety Award for the Southwest Region.
