Make your Instagram Public before VISA interview!
All B1/B2 visa applicants must list every social media username they've used in the past 5 years on the DS-160 form.
• Consular officers are now requiring these profiles to be public at the time of review.
• Platforms include Instagram, Facebook, Twitter (X), LinkedIn, YouTube, and sometimes regional networks like VK, WeChat, etc.
This new requirement is being rolled out as part of enhanced identity and background verification.
Applicants who: • Delete or hide accounts before their interview,
• Leave out any profiles, or • Switch accounts to private after submitting the DS-160
are being flagged for additional screening and in some cases, denied.
Visa officers are cross-checking your social media with the rest of your application, especially: • Work history •Education •Location •Public posts or affiliations.
If you're applying soon: Make sure all bios match your DS-160
info.
Don't try to delete or hide anything last-minute, it may backfire. • Keep things consistent and transparent.
