We had a great start to our day with the Alma PD’s Youth Academy.🚔⚖️

After an hour of “law school” the kids jumped right into a mock trial, taking on the roles of officers, prosecutors, defense attorneys, witnesses, and even the defendant. It was clear they had studied and came prepared to make their case!

From thoughtful questioning and plenty of quick objections to lots of laughs along the way, they truly brought the courtroom to life. We loved seeing their teamwork, confidence, and enthusiasm as they learned more about how the justice system works. Thank you Alma Police Department for inviting us, it was a fun and memorable morning!

It was a pleasure partnering with the Van Buren Police Department Youth Academy for a fun-filled mock trial experience.

Let's just say... the courtroom got a little lively! Between dramatic witness testimony, passionate attorneys, and plenty of objections, there was just the right amount of trial chaos to keep everyone on their toes.

Participants got a firsthand look at what happens inside a courtroom and learned about the important role prosecutors play in the justice system. We loved seeing their enthusiasm, questions, and willingness to jump into their courtroom roles!

Thank you to the Van Buren Police Department Youth Academy for spending the day with us. We had a great time and hope this experience inspired the next generation of public servants, attorneys, and community leaders!

On June 24, 2026, Khristopher Dale Miller, 37, of Alma, was convicted by a Crawford County jury for Attempted Murder and Battery in the First Degree.
Miller was sentenced to 16 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
Throughout the two-day trial, the jury heard testimony from the victims, witnesses, law enforcement officers, and a medical doctor.
The evidence presented at trial showed that after being reprimanded by his mother-in-law for striking a minor child, Miller retrieved a firearm from his bedroom and shot her, causing serious injuries to her. Miller then turned the firearm toward his father-in-law and attempted to shoot him, but fortunately the firearm malfunctioned, preventing what could have been an even greater tragedy.
We want to recognizes Chief Deputy Will Cosner and Deputy Lena Pinkerton for their outstanding work in presenting the State's case and securing this conviction. Investigator Matthew Hesson and the Crawford County Sheriff's Office for their great and thorough investigation.our Victim-Witness Program Coordinator, Guadalupe Ayala, for providing unwavering support and assistance to the victims and their family throughout the whole process, Anna Belle Payton, our Victim-Witness Specialist, for her assistance throughout the trial, and our paws for justice Ari and his handler Rebecca for being present throughout the proceedings.
We also extend our appreciation to the members of the Crawford County jury for their service, careful attention throughout the trial, and commitment to fulfilling their important civic duty by holding those who commit violent crimes accountable.

Last week, Nathan Matulewicz pled guilty to the offense of Failure to Register as a S*x Offender. As a result, the Court sentenced Matulewicz to 15 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, followed by an additional 15 years Suspended Imposition of Sentence (SIS) with the requirement to register as a s*x offender.
This conviction reflects the continued commitment of law enforcement and prosecutors to ensuring compliance with Arkansas s*x offender registration laws and holding offenders accountable when those requirements are violated.
The Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney's Office would like to recognize Investigator Doug Smith of the Crawford County Sheriff's Office for his diligent work on this case. We also commend Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lena Pinkerton for her efforts in securing this conviction and advocating for a sentence that promotes public safety.
This case demonstrates the strong collaboration between the Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, the Crawford County Sheriff's Office. Together, we remain dedicated to protecting the public and ensuring accountability for those who violate the law.
