How to pick the right notary (not all notaries are the same) 👀

here's what actually matters:

1️⃣ are they certified? — NNA certification means they've been trained on the rules, not just handed a stamp
2️⃣ are they insured? — E&O insurance protects YOU if something goes wrong, not just them
3️⃣ background screened? — this should be non-negotiable, you're letting someone handle your legal documents
4️⃣ do they actually show up on time? — sounds basic, but ask around, this is where a lot of notaries fall short
5️⃣ can they come to you? — mobile matters, especially if you're dealing with a hospital visit, a tight schedule, or just don't want to drive across town

a notary is the last checkpoint before your document becomes official. that's not something to hand off to whoever's cheapest or closest.

What happens when your document isn't filled out correctly ⚠️

I can't fix it for you — that's the part people don't expect.

as a notary, i'm not allowed to fill in blanks, correct wording, or give you legal advice on what SHOULD go in a section. that's practicing law, and i'm not licensed for that.

so if you show up with missing info, blank fields that need to be filled, or sections left incomplete — I have to pause the signing until it's fixed. sometimes that means rescheduling.

what i CAN do:
✅ point out that something looks incomplete
✅ pause and let you contact whoever drafted the document
✅ make sure everything's correct before we move forward with the notarization

it might feel like an inconvenience in the moment, but it's what protects you — an incomplete document can get rejected, delayed, or invalidated later.

What i actually look for when verifying your ID 🔍

✅ name matches the document EXACTLY — middle name, suffix, all of it
✅ ID isn't expired — even by one day, it's a no-go
✅ photo actually looks like you
✅ physical security features — holograms, raised text, correct fonts (yes, fake IDs have wrong fonts)
✅ signature on the ID roughly matches how you sign in front of me

if something's off, i can't just "let it slide" — this is the part of the job that protects YOU. it's what makes sure your document holds up and doesn't get challenged later.

i'm not trying to be difficult, i'm trying to make sure your notarization is actually worth something 📝

The little mistakes that can void your entire document 👀

1️⃣ Signing BEFORE you get in front of the notary — nope, gotta sign in front of me, not before
2️⃣ Using an expired or mismatched ID — name on the ID has to match the name on the document
3️⃣ Missing pages or blank spaces — if there's a blank left in a spot that needs info, that's a problem
4️⃣ Wrong date — sounds small, isn't. courts have thrown out documents over this
5️⃣ Using the wrong notarial certificate (acknowledgment vs jurat) — these are NOT interchangeable and using the wrong one can void the whole thing

notaries aren't just here to stamp and go — we're the last line of defense before your document becomes official. one small error and it could get rejected, delayed, or challenged in court.

that part's on your attorney (or google, no judgment).

what i CAN do: show up same-day, evenings/weekends, wherever you are in Tampa Bay — and make sure your notarization doesn't get rejected because of a technicality.
