Day 3 at the Florida Children & Families Summit ⚖️

Today gave me a lot to think about.

We spent time talking about trauma, resilience, and what it actually looks like to create a court experience that feels more thoughtful and supportive for children and families.

What really stayed with me is that sometimes the things that seem small can make a big difference how we communicate, the environment a child walks into, the way a court team responds, and whether a child feels seen and supported throughout the process.
We also looked at how trauma-responsive practices can lead to better outcomes for families, which was such an important reminder that the way we do this work matters.

My biggest takeaway: understanding trauma is only the first step. The real impact comes from what we do with that understanding.

Grateful to end the Summit with ideas I can carry back into my work.

Day 2 at the Florida Children & Families Summit 💙

Today’s sessions were a good reminder that children are so much more than the circumstances that bring them into the legal system.
We talked about the mental health needs of individuals with autism, neurodivergence, and the importance of family connections, especially sibling relationships.

One message that really stayed with me was this: when so much in a child’s life is changing, a sibling can be one of the few constants that still feels like home.

That perspective matters.
The more we understand the whole child, the better we can listen, advocate, and make decisions with their needs in mind.

Grateful for another day of learning and for the conversations that continue to shape how I approach this work.

Day 1 at the Florida Children & Families Summit was a great reminder of why staying informed matters so much in this work.

Today’s sessions touched on important developments in dependency law, parental rights, due process, and updates to Florida court rules.

What stayed with me most is that behind every case, every rule, and every legal decision, there are real children and families whose lives are directly affected.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep learning, connect with others doing this work, and bring these insights back into the way I advocate for children and families.

Looking forward to what the rest of the Summit brings.

Every year, YMCA Blue Ridge Leaders School reminds me why I do what I do.

For one week, I step away from the courtroom and spend my time teaching leadership to teenagers. Every year, I come home feeling recharged and reminded that investing in people, especially young people, creates a ripple effect that lasts far beyond a single week.

This was my sixth year on the mountain, marked by receiving my 6-year jacket. It’s a meaningful tradition, especially because I never had the opportunity to attend Blue Ridge as a teenager. I joined Leaders Club when I was 13, but my family couldn’t afford to send me. It took another 20 years before I finally made it there, this time as staff. Being able to give today’s teens an experience I never had is something I never take for granted.

Steve Bowers, who built our Bob Sierra YMCA, served as Executive Director and later Vice President of the Tampa YMCA. He mentored my Leaders Club advisor, Chris Schrader. After Chris passed away in 2017, I returned to volunteering at the YMCA because I wanted to continue the legacy he left behind. For the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching Leadership alongside Steve, and every year I’m reminded how much one mentor can change the course of someone’s life.

This year, Lillie Pittman served as Bob Sierra’s advisor, and she reminded all of us what great leadership looks like. She creates a space where teenagers feel safe, included, supported, and challenged to become their authentic selves.

Whether I’m representing families in court or mentoring future leaders, the mission is the same: help people find their voice, build confidence, and leave them better than I found them.

Thank you to everyone who made BRLS ‘26 such a meaningful week. I’m already looking forward to next year.

Brittany Lindsay Law was honored to attend the YMCA Community Impact Dinner, celebrating the organizations and leaders strengthening families across Tampa Bay.

The YMCA has been part of Brittany’s story since childhood, having grown up at the Bob Sierra YMCA. Today, she has the privilege of serving on the board there, supporting the same community that helped shape her.

Investing in children, families, and strong community partnerships remains at the heart of both the YMCA’s mission and Brittany Lindsay Law’s commitment to putting kids first.

The Hillsborough County Bar Association’s Diversity luncheon today included keynote speaker Mayor Jane Castor, a service award to the very dedicated Daniela Mendez and professor Honorable Nick Nazaretian, and a lovely invocation from Rabbi Joel Simon.

The afternoon was spent celebrating their hard work and Tampa’s sustainable growth.
