City, County & Local Government Law Section of the Florida Bar

City, County & Local Government Law Section of the Florida Bar A Florida Bar organization for lawyers practicing local government law. The Section serves approximately 1,700 lawyers.

We represent local government and private interests in the area of local government. Our work usually centers on local government boards, commissions, councils, and districts, and the work that they do. The top 5 benefits to section membership are:

1. An association of colleagues and friends from around the state to exchange best practices, new ideas and solutions.

2. A web site and a list serve

that distributes messages, legal questions or issues to section members via email. Any subscriber can post or respond to a message.

3. Seminars such as the Annual Public Employers Labor Relations Forum, Sunshine Law – Public Records and Ethics for Public Officers & Employees, the Annual Local Government Law in Florida, the Certification Review Course, and Land Use.

4. Publications such as the Stetson Law Review, the Agenda, the Local Government Law Desk Book.

5. The section provides a united voice for city county local government issues within the Florida Bar. It provides a platform to explore new ideas for programs and services that will meet the needs of the local government lawyers today and tomorrow.

The Florida Bar’s Government Lawyer Section on June 5 held its first-ever Legacy & Leadership Symposium, a half-day of presentations and presentation of the section’s 2026 awards during its executive council meeting.

Congratulations to CCLGL Section members Barbara Govea of the City of Hialeah, recipient of the Claude Pepper Outstanding Government Lawyer Award, and Steven Zuilkowski of the Florida Commission on Ethics, recipient of a chair’s Distinguished Service to the Section Award, and to John Bajger and Jacek Stramski, who also received awards.

The American Bar Association is warning attorneys and the public about a growing immigration fraud scheme in which scammers impersonate licensed lawyers, legal aid organizations, and even the ABA. Using real attorney names, bar numbers, fake retainer agreements, and fraudulent immigration documents, scammers are targeting individuals seeking legal assistance through platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and TikTok. Victims have suffered financial losses and serious immigration consequences, including missed filing deadlines and deportation orders.

REMINDER: Florida Bar annual fee season is underway with the traditional option to pay online by signing in to member.floridabar.org and clicking the “Pay My Fees” button.

Fees may be paid via credit card or e-check. Online payment is the quickest and easiest way to pay your annual fees, elect voluntary section memberships, and stay in compliance with Bar rules for trust accounting and pro bono reporting.

Fees remain at $265 for active members and $175 for inactive members.
