They Weren’t Just Teachers. They Were Their Safe Place. 🖤
25 years ago, I was in high school, enrolled in a Career Tech program preparing to become an educator. I was also Vice President of my school’s Future Educators Club when 9/11 happened.
Today, as an early childhood educator and advocate, I think about that day through a different lens: the children.
At the Children’s Discovery Center in the World Trade Center complex, early childhood educators gathered babies and young children, held little hands, carried them, and led them to safety.
Every child from the center survived.
It reminds me of the incredible responsibility we place in the hands of early childhood educators.
We don’t just entrust them with our children’s learning.
We entrust them with their lives.
25 years later, I honor the educators who showed extraordinary courage when their children needed them most.
Early childhood educators matter. 🖤
