The more I looked into the recent Reflecting Pool renovation in Washington, D.C., the more questions I had.

This project reportedly ended up nearly $8 million over budget. Yet when I started researching the contractor behind the work, I found some things that didn't seem to fit what many people would expect from a company entrusted with a major federal project.

In this video, I walk through publicly available information and compare the recent renovation to the extensive planning, engineering, and public documentation surrounding the major Reflecting Pool restoration completed in 2010.

Among the questions explored:

🔍 Why does the company have such a minimal online presence despite receiving a high-profile government contract?

🏠 Why does the company's listed headquarters appear to be a residential address?

👥 Why is the company described as woman-owned while the public face, spokesperson, and incorporator appear to be the same individual featured throughout the project?

💰 What explains the significant budget overrun?

When a loved one passes away, many families assume they must go through a lengthy and expensive probate process before they can access or transfer assets. Fortunately, that is not always the case.

What happens if you have life insurance but not an estate plan in place?

Random fact for the night. If you file your will with the St. Louis County Circuit Court, while you are alive, it will cost you $3.00. If you have an attorney or other party file your will with the same circuit court after you die, the fee is $35.00. Not a lot of money, but a dollar is a dollar.

If you don't have a will, and you have kids, not only do your kids have to spend money you give them through your life insurance policy, the day they turn 18, they get all of it.
