The background screening for a Notary commission application and the industry-required screening for Notary Signing Agents are different and serve different purposes.

The Notary application background check is a required step in some states whereas the Notary Signing Agent background screening is required by the mortgage industry.

If you’re applying to become a Notary Signing Agent for the first time in a state that requires a background screening for your commission, you’ll need to pass two background screenings to qualify for loan signing assignments.

Applicants for a new or renewing Notary commission must follow state instructions to meet their background check requirements.
