So the 2nd largest tax preparer, Jackson Hewitt, just conducted a survey and asked respondents do you think you have more time to prepare your taxes because the government was shut down early this year for 35 days. 40% of the respondents said YES. Well, the truth is NO you don't have more time. Your taxes are do April 15th, 2019. Last week, the National Taxpayers Union did strongly recommend that the deadline this year be pushed to May 15. A number of Congress persons are seriously weighing the options. What they will eventually decide no one know. At this point your taxes are due April 15th. We hope you survived the Holiday Season and are ready for a prosperous and successful 2018. The IRS announced they will begin accepting returns on January 29, 2018 for the tax year 2017.

As you are no doubt aware, there were a lot of changes in Federal tax law at the end of 2017. These changes will affect your 2018 taxes that will be filed in early 2019. Alimony payments, non-reimbursed employee expenses, personal exemptions as well as standard deductions are just some of the changes. Not to mention the tax rates are being lowered for many individuals and yet raised for others. We can discuss how these changes will impact your specific circumstances.

My published rate for preparing 2017 taxes will be $ 199. This fee includes all forms and schedules for both your State and Federal filing requirements. Again, that includes the preparation of your State and Federal returns (including all forms necessary, including e-filing both form returns).

Please start setting aside your 1098s, 1099s and W2s as well as other financial documents. You should receive your W2s and 1099s no later than the first week of February. By law they must be sent to you no later than January 31. If you have any questions, please give me a call.
