πŸŽ“ Our next Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight: Jacob Airhiavbere from Summit Atlas High School in Seattle!

After discovering his school's robotics team had been discontinued, Jacob didn't just miss it β€” he rebuilt it. As co-founder and captain, he helped secure funding and a faculty advisor, and has led the team through two seasons of the First Tech Challenge, opening the door to STEM for his fellow students.

This fall, Jacob heads to Carnegie Mellon University to study Electrical and Computer Engineering, with dreams of becoming a roboticist. We can't wait to see what he builds next!

πŸŽ“ Next up in our Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight series: Roniel Alessandro Pineda-Hendrickson β€” aka Alex β€” from Sierra in Seattle!

A mechanical engineer in the making, Alex spent his high school years doing what he does best: building things. From woodworking and metalworking Expeditions to a fully student-run band performance in front of the whole school, he's brought creativity and curiosity to everything he's touched. Oh, and he ran a winning campaign for class president along the way.

This fall, Alex heads to Gonzaga University to pursue his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. We can't wait to see what he makes next!

πŸŽ“ Our next Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight comes from Innovation High School in Spokane β€” meet Sam Manley!

From directing a sold-out theatre production to crocheting full outfits for the runway, Sam has spent four years at Innovation doing it all. He also helped launch Bites2Go, a program providing free weekend meals to students, and started a formal clothing rental service so every student could attend dances without worrying about the cost.

This fall, Sam is taking a gap semester before heading to community college for theatre β€” with plans to use storytelling as a force for equity and social justice. We love to see it!

πŸŽ“ Our next Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight: Aubrie from Lumen High School!

Aubrie came to Lumen during a pivotal moment in her senior year and found the support she needed to keep moving toward her goals. A longtime multi-sport athlete with a passion for the medical field, she's spent this year balancing school, volunteering with Second Harvest, and preparing for two big milestones at once.

This fall, Aubrie heads to Eastern Washington University to study nursing β€” and she's also expecting her baby in August. We're so proud of everything she's building. Congratulations, Aubrie!

This Juneteenth, we're honoring the freedom, resilience, and sacrifice of those who came before us. We are an organization rooted in anti-racist values, and we know that the fight for educational equity cannot be separated from the broader pursuit of justice and liberation for Black communities. That pursuit belongs to all of us πŸ–€β€οΈπŸ’š

WA Charters Intern spotlight: Khi'lani

β€œAdvocacy, in my view, means standing up for yourself and others and confidently expressing your needs and beliefs. It is about using your voice to create change, even when it feels difficult. Throughout history, advocacy has played a powerful role in shaping society. β€œ

At Spokane International Academy, students explore language, culture, and global perspectives starting in kindergarten β€” building the creative and cross-cultural fluency that powers careers in arts, media, and creative industries. By 8th grade, students have the opportunity to travel to a Spanish-speaking country to experience the language and community they’ve been building since day one. 🎨
