With a claim deadline in August 2024, thousands of people exposed to contaminated water at a North Carolina Marine base are suing the government for damages. The government is also offering early settlements to some victims, but is challenging their right to a jury trial.

In the coming year, litigation over tainted water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune may involve the first trials, which could decide liability and damages for several types of cancer claims as one of the biggest mass torts takes shape.

In a major legal setback, Bayer has been ordered by a Missouri jury to pay $1.56 billion to four plaintiffs who alleged that the company's Roundup weedkiller, which they used on their family properties, caused non-Hodgkin lymphoma. This verdict is Bayer's fourth consecutive court loss and adds to the company's ongoing litigation challenges despite its stance that Roundup and glyphosate are safe for human use.

A Missouri jury ordered Bayer to pay $1.56 billion to four plaintiffs who claimed the company's Roundup weedkiller caused injuries including cancer, a verdict that could intensify investor pressure on the German drugs and agricultural chemicals company to change its legal strategy.

A recent Reuters investigation reveals that Tesla has been facing a surge of complaints regarding the driving range of their electric vehicles. The report suggests that Tesla's in-dash range estimates may have been overly optimistic, leading to customer dissatisfaction when real-world performance didn't match up. This led to the creation of a 'Diversion Team' within Tesla, tasked with handling and diverting range-related complaints. Read more about it here: https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/tesla-batteries-range/

New research suggests that up to a quarter of clinical trials in some fields might be flawed or fabricated. John Carlisle, an anesthetist renowned for spotting dubious data in medical trials, found that 44% of over 150 trials he scrutinized had flawed data, and 26% were so problematic that they were considered untrustworthy. The implications are significant, as these flawed studies can mislead medical guidelines and treatment decisions. Experts are calling for stronger scrutiny, including the routine sharing of individual participant data and more rigorous checks for trustworthiness.

Investigations suggest that, in some fields, at least one-quarter of clinical trials might be problematic or even entirely made up, warn some researchers. They urge stronger scrutiny.
