Let’s face it—Homeowner’s insurance is changing for better or worse. Now more than ever it’s important to stay ahead of the curve. If you have a living trust make sure to add it as an additional insured to your homeowner’s policy. This ensures that the trust is protected from liability and property damage claims.

Why is it important?

If you don't update your policy, your trust might not be covered, which could lead to coverage gaps.

Plus, if your home is insured under your name but owned by the trust, the insurance company could deny a claim. This is particularly important in light of the recent wildfires in LA and southern CA.

As an estate planning attorney, (and mom) the back-to-school season signals an important reminder about planning for clients with children.

Parenting carries so many responsibilities; thinking ahead to unanticipated events, and planning for them, is a very important one. Are your kids named as your beneficiaries in your will or trust? Should something happen to you or their other parent, who will take care of/raise your children?

The key is to plan BEFORE you have to. Don’t wait until someone is sick or until you experience a difficult probate. Do it today!
