Serving those who serve others
My professional story really starts early in my childhood. Growing up, I never dreamed of being a Realtor, I was an athletic country boy who loved to compete and I thought I going to be a teach/coach when I was grown up. I didn’t have a stable childhood it was for that reason that I felt the need to become an educator. I wanted to protect children in a way I felt I wasn’t protected as a child. Like many of us, my dream career didn’t turn out as dreamy as I hoped.
After 7 years in college to earn one degree in Education, I spent five years of teaching at MacArthur High School in in the Special Education department. Initially, I couldn’t be happier, the relationships I made were lifelong, the impact I had was meaningful, and the lifestyle I lived was comfortable. As time carried on and the reality set in, I had to accept that though I loved the people work and I felt I was great in the classroom with my kids, in my dealings with the parents and coworkers, I hated the paperwork that the job became more and more about. Ultimately, I had to decide if I could accept this reality or I had to make a new reality for me to live.
In 2009, not long after my wife and I bought our first house and felt very underwhelmed with the level of service we received and some personal soul searching, I landed on Real Estate as an opportunity to serve, educate and lead other people; which I knew I needed in order for me to feel fulfilled in my future profession. After quickly completing my education, I got my license and went to work. I started part time while I continued to teach for the next 2 years. During this time, I learned a lot and I learned it quickly. I was fortunate enough to have a few colleagues to put their trust into me and help them find a home. My first home purchase was a fellow teacher/coach (Thanks Tap!) and from there I branched out into the real world. Since that first client, I have been fortunate enough to help many many teachers, nurses, police officers and Veterans in and around the greater San Antonio market.
Through these experiences I realized that my calling was to serve those who spend their days serving others. I felt empowered and driven to find new ways to help these home town heroes to find a way to successfully execute their dreams of buying or selling a home. I’ve helped many teachers buy their first home and not only have to put no money down but also actually get a check back at closing, I’ve help a local police officer buy a home through the Good Neighbors Nextdoor program that took 50% off of the purchase price and many other stories like that.
