The Department of Health and Human Services Division of Aging and Adult Services is excited to continue their effort to further awareness for resources and issues facing older adults in our communities — and we need your help! They are focusing on their upcoming Elder Abuse Awareness Day conference.

Join them on June 16 for their annual Utah Elder Abuse Awareness Day virtual conference! They’re diving deep into how we can better support and protect older adults facing isolation, neglect, and mistreatment.

The conference will feature 2 incredible experts:

Dr. Kristin Lees Haggerty – Director of the National Collaboratory to Address Elder Mistreatment

Dr. Timothy Farrell – University of Utah Health

Whether you’re a professional working in aging services or a community member who wants to look out for your neighbors, this session is for you. Let’s work together to ensure our seniors feel safe and seen.

We want to share an opportunity to participate in a research study led by Floris Yeung, a Clinical Psychology doctoral student at the Wright Institute. This study looks at the experiences of Asian-identified young adults (ages 18-29) from immigrant families who have helped translate or interpret for others, and how those experiences may affect their well-being.

Eligible participants can complete a short, anonymous online survey (10–15 minutes) and will have a chance to win one of four $50 Amazon gift cards. To learn more or participate, visit tinyurl.com/LBadjustment.

The Utah Courts invites you to their upcoming Community Court Program at the kearns Library.

The Community Court program will have a team of attorneys, mediators, and Utah Court Staff that can help residents understand the eviction process, what their rights are, and options to avoid severe negative consequences.

We are in the process of growing our legal clinic with volunteer attorneys. So we encourage individuals who are seeking legal advice to register ASAP.

Please feel free to share this information with any clients, community partners, or stakeholders who may benefit from the Community Court program.

Working to resolve an eviction related matter can help individuals avoid severe negative consequences such as:

Having a permanent mark on your credit history
Having trouble finding future housing
Potential court judgements for unpaid rent
Wage garnishment
Collection efforts
Attorney fees
Trouble damages

To register to appear in Community Court please fill out the form(s) included on the flyer
