Recent headlines about states passing laws targeting and affecting LGBTQIA+ folks are heinous, terrifying, and sobering.

This current administration and its supporters want nothing more than to strip away LGBTQIA+ folks’ rights.

These laws will most certainly be challenged. While I can’t say for sure they’ll be struck down, they’re testing the limits of what they can do and take away.

It’s an important reminder that we need to be proactive in protecting ourselves and ensuring those we want making decisions for us are able.

Now is the time to think about what would happen if your marriage weren’t recognized and default state laws dictated your decision making?

You can put things in place to safeguard those choices regardless of what state laws say.

Reach out today if you’re looking to update your plan or get one started.

2025 has been an exciting, sad, and overall wild year.

In 2025 I got my first clients and have been slowly building a client base. Referrals and word of mouth are the best advertising.

I spent a lot of time learning more about helping clients and how to meet their needs.

I handled a few uncontested divorces for clients and it was exciting to learn another area of law and help people.

It was also a relentless onslaught of government actions that forced groups of people to fear for their safety and future.

Having an estate plan is essential. Two very personal moments occurred where both individuals did not have an estate plan.

The hardest moment of the year and my life was when my mother passed away suddenly and in the middle of grieving I was thrown into how to help my family handle an estate when there’s no will. Spoiler alert – it makes it a lot harder.

2025 taught me that things do not have to be perfect, but steps need to be taken to ensure you’re set as well as those in your life.

My goal for 2026 is to help people feel informed, empowered, prepared, and have peace of mind.

Peace of mind can look like having an important conversation about your wishes and health, updating or creating your estate plan, identifying clear decision-makers for your needs.

It can also look like protecting yourself and your loved ones.

If you’re ready to have the conversations and develop the best plan for you, reach out today.

Let’s start 2026 off with your journey to peace of mind!

After 14 years working in public education, I discovered how deeply I love advocating for people—helping them understand their rights, navigate overwhelming systems, and feel seen and supported. That passion is what guided me into the practice of law.

At Lloyd Legal, PLLC, I focus on the areas that matter most to individuals, families, and community members:
