What Does Support Really Look Like?

Here’s a question worth thinking about:

When you see someone you know consistently building their business, promoting their brand, sharing their services, and working toward their goals but you never engage with what they share what does that really mean?

Does it mean the content simply doesn’t interest you?
Does it mean you don’t think about how important engagement can be to a small business?
Or have we simply gotten so accustomed to scrolling that we sometimes forget there is a real person behind that business working hard to build something?

There’s no expectation that everyone should like or share everything. That’s not the point.

The point is intentional support.

~A like costs nothing.
~A share costs nothing.
~A positive comment costs nothing.
~A referral costs nothing.
~A word of encouragement costs nothing.

And support doesn’t always mean spending money.

^Sometimes it’s recommending someone when an opportunity comes up.

WHAT HAPPENED TO PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING & INFORMATION SHARING?🤔

I’ve noticed something recently across several professional Facebook groups, and I think it’s worth discussing.

Many of us join professional groups to network, share information, educate, learn, collaborate, market our businesses, and connect with others within our industries. That’s a significant part of what makes social media valuable for business professionals.

Lately, however, I’ve gone back and noticed that several posts I’ve submitted to groups I’m a member of are simply sitting in “Pending Approval” status with no approval, no denial, and no communication explaining whether the post violates a particular group rule.

I completely respect that every Facebook group has its own purpose and that administrators have every right to establish and enforce rules for their communities. Moderation is necessary.

But I also believe communication and transparency matter!

If a post doesn’t meet the group’s guidelines, why not decline it and communicate the reason? If certain types of professional content are no longer permitted, why not clearly state that? That information allows members to understand the expectations and adjust accordingly.

For those of us in real estate, networking doesn’t stop at a city, county, or even a state line. People relocate. Buyers and sellers move between markets. REALTORS build referral relationships across the country. Sharing appropriate professional information can create opportunities for consumers and professionals alike.

There is a difference between moderating a group to protect its purpose and leaving members’ legitimate professional content indefinitely pending without explanation.

Social media was built around connection and information sharing. Professional groups can be even more valuable when there is a healthy balance between clear boundaries and open professional collaboration.
