They are benefited by a wide-spread misconception: “As long as a comment is written, it can be effectively anonymous”. This is the reason that people leave ransom notes, publish radical manifestos, and act in socially unacceptable ways on the Internet. Everybody leaves telltale marks in their writing that are as unique to an individual as a fingerprint. By analyzing these marks, we can determine if it is likely that a certain individual wrote a document and we can also tell certain traits about that individual.
