It is a myth that in order to qualify for Medicaid nursing home assistance a married couple must have no assets.

The spouse, (called the "community spouse" which literally means still living out the community), may keep assets up to $128,640 without jeopardizing the Medicaid eligibility of the spouse receiving Medicaid long-term care benefits.
