East Falls Tree Tenders is delighted to share with you that 21 new trees were planted throughout the neighborhood on Saturday, Nov. 15th. Three trees were planted at McMichael Park and another 18 are now lining streets in many different places. Look for them on Calumet St., Stanton St., Netherfield St., Fox St. and Queen Lane near Wissahickon Ave. Others were planted on New Queen St., Midvale Ave., Penn and Ainsle. We are trying to fill the gap in our urban tree canopy, one tree, one house at a time. Feel free to get in touch with us or PHS’s street tree program on how you can apply for a free street tree or two. Beautify your block, promote a more diverse biotic system, manage storm water runoff and cool down streets and sidewalks in the summer months.

**Growing a Greener Future—Together!** 🌳🌿

On Saturday, April 12th, the East Falls Tree Tenders, along with dedicated neighborhood volunteers, came together to plant 12 new street trees throughout our community. These trees now stand proudly at Mifflin Elementary, our local library, McMichael Park on Coulter Street, and in front of several homes—each one a step toward restoring our urban tree canopy.

Tree by tree, street by street, we are making a difference! As you stroll along Midvale Avenue, Warden Drive, Coulter Street, Fox Street, Queen Lane, or Netherfield, take a moment to admire these new additions. Read the tags, learn about their species, and envision the future—when their branches will stretch wide, offering cool shade, fresh air, and a welcoming habitat for birds.

These trees are more than just greenery; they are symbols of a thriving, vibrant community. Let’s keep this momentum going and inspire even more tree planting efforts. **Together, we can grow a greener, healthier neighborhood for generations to come!** 🌎🌱

Would you like to get involved in future plantings or help care for these trees? Let’s make it happen! 💚

And this is why we plant trees! In 1960, when I was five years old, the measurement of the concentration of atmospheric CO2 was around 320 ppm! The amount and it rate of increase has been accelerating over the past 65 years.

Teams from East Falls Tree Tenders (EFTT) were out and about throughout the community in February trimming street trees. Trees were pruned for proper clearance above the street and sidewalk. Additionally, surgical cuts were done to eliminate cross branching and co-dominant leaders. This is Queen Lane from between Stokely down to Henry Avenue. Additionally, teams were out on Stanton, Calumet, Midvale, Bowman and Tilden.

On Saturday, November 16th, 2024, members of East Falls Tree Tenders and volunteers spanned out across East Falls to plant eleven (11) street trees, including three (3) on Midvale Avenue at our local elementary school, Mifflin. This was another successful venture in our almost 30-year history as part of our mission to restore the urban tree canopy in East Falls, Philadelphia.
