Today, Associate Julia Pilkington-Alexander represented the American Immigration Lawyer Association (AILA), Northern California Chapter, along with AILA NorCal Board Member, Attorney Karl Krooth, at the California LAW Pathways- 2026 Pathways to Law Summit held at UC Law SF, speaking to community college students and faculty about law student membership and opportunities for law students to get involved in immigration law while in school.

BLMT is proud to celebrate that the UC Law SF moot court team coached by Associate Julia Pilkington-Alexander finished as National Quarterfinalists (top 8 teams) at the NYU National Immigration Law Moot Court Competition! As their alumni coach, Julia worked with the second year law students on honing their oral argument structure and deepening their understanding of relevant immigration, constitutional, administrative, and international law. The team turned in their legal brief in late January and had to be ready by the weekend of February 6-8 to argue both as the Attorney General and as representative for noncitizens in simulated rounds of arguing before the Supreme Court of the United States. The team was judged by immigration practitioners and even former immigration judges! BLMT is proud of their hard work and dedication.

Yesterday, Anita attended the AILA NY Symposium on BLMT’s behalf, joining panels on hot topics and late-breaking immigration updates, insights from former immigration judges, strategies for clients who may lose temporary status, and how to lawyer ethically and defensively in an ever-shifting landscape.

She came back energized by the collective commitment in the room- immigration advocates all working toward fairness, protection, and dignity for immigrant communities.
