Hold Police Accountable with an Elected Civilian Review Board

Hold Police Accountable with an Elected Civilian Review Board We are a coalition of organizations and individuals fighting for an Elected Civilian Review Board (ECRB) to stop police violence.

We are a coalition of organizations and individuals fighting for an Elected Civilian Review Board (ECRB) to replace the ineffective current Civilian Complaint Review Board in New York City. We seek to achieve this crucial change through an amendment to the NYC Charter. The ECRB is a necessary mechanism to stop police violence and give real recourse to victims of police abuse. It would empower the

community with oversight and measures to hold the police accountable for their protocols and actions. Members of the ECRB would be elected at a grassroots community level. We work together democratically to win this reform and consciously build the participation and leadership of those most affected by police violence. We make decisions by majority vote in meetings and participation is open to all those who agree with our goal. Current Campaign Endorsers:

It's been 3 years since George Floyd's brutal murder ignited the country in a call for justice, and the NY City Council has done NOTHING to pass real police reform.

We are calling on and to hold a hearing now on the Community POWER Act, to bring empowered oversight over the NYPD.

It has been introduced for a full year and is being blocked by both of them from having a hearing.

The Community POWER Act stands for Police Oversight With Elected Review, and establishes an elected and empowered civilian review board and Independent Prosecutor able to hold police accountable.

Every week a new story proves the NYPD can't and won't police itself. Until we give the public the ability to hold police accountable, we are just waiting for another senseless death at the hands of officers.

DETAILS:

WHAT: Press Conference Calling For Police Reform 3 Years After George Floyd’s Death
WHEN: Thursday, May 25th, 11:30am

This excellent article by John Teufel exposes how the City Council leadership blocks real reform - and how we're not giving up the fight.

What does it take for politicians to fear their constituents more than their bosses?

PRESS CONFERENCE AND RALLY: This upcoming Monday at 2pm at the 32nd NYPD Precinct, stand with the family of Antonio C Armstrong and support his sister, 14-year-old who was assaulted by 32nd precinct officer when she was peaceful protesting the one year anniversary of her brothers murdered by the same precinct.

The NYPD must answer for both their murder of innocent lives and for their attacks on families fighting for justice.
Stand with the families and against one of the most abusive police precincts in the city.

We are fighting for an elected and empowered review board that can fire these abusive cops, and an independent prosecutor that can prosecute them, for this very reason. We must give power to the people to defend ourselves. City Council: Pass the Community POWER Act NOW!

SHARE AND SPREAD THE WORD! NYPD Officers surround, harass and assault a 13 year old girl at a peaceful demonstration for her brother killed by the NYPD on Oct 6th, one year after his killing.

The child was with her mother and a small group of people (including other children) protesting at the 32nd precinct and calling for justice for Antonio C Armstrong who was killed by the NYPD on Oct 6th, 2021. Despite the demonstration being small and peaceful, police barricaded the entire block and swarmed the scene. The young girl was trying to reach her friend, who was not allowed to cross the barricades and join the demonstration, as cops surrounded her and put hands on her, ignoring her many cries to be left alone. As she was hugging her friend, the officers pulled them apart and one pushed her, resulting in her stumbling and injuring her ankle. The NYPD then wouldn't allow the protest group to leave the barricades and had to be asked repeatedly to open them so they could leave. This girl, who was mourning her brother, was attacked by the same police force that killed her brother. This aggressive and violent harassment of families exercising their First Amendment rights must be protested. The 32nd precinct is the same precinct where a young woman was brutally assaulted in late August. It's notoriously violent and antagonistic towards the community. Share this video and help fight against this racist violence.

Incidents like this are exactly why we are fighting for an elected empowered review board and independent prosecutor in the Community POWER Act. We need a community-elected force to push back and fire abusive and violent cops and an Independent Prosecutor to win justice in the criminal courts.

TOMORROW- we march on the Mayor! On the 59th Anniversary of the March on Washington, we are calling on Mayor Adams to defend civil rights and support the Community POWER Act: legislation that will establish an elected & empowered police review board as well as an Independent Prosecutor!

While the Mayor parties with celebrities and lines the pockets of the NYPD, citizens of New York continue to suffer under the hands of criminal police and an uncaring, broken system. How can Mayor Adams call himself 'The People's Candidate' if he refuses to protect those he's paid to represent?

Join us Sunday, Aug 28th @ 1PM at the Carl Schurz Park Entrance (86th & East End Ave) where we will march to Gracie Mansion to let the Mayor know we need accountability in NYC A.S.A.P.!
