Anyone else following this?

Pattie Gonia states that “This is not a brand conflict, this is a corporation trying to erase an activist,” but I say (not that anyone asked) that this is actually how an influencer with an estimated net worth of 12 million dollars, uses a trite and frankly inaccurate narrative to reframe a trademark dispute as political persecution.

The issue is not activism. Patagonia is not suing her for environmental advocacy, drag performance, or political speech.

According to the complaint, the issue is that Pattie Gonia allegedly appropriated a well-known trademark to build and commercialize a competing brand, sought trademark protection for that brand, and sold apparel under a name intentionally derived from Patagonia's own.

If those allegations are true, this is not a corporation trying to erase an activist—it is a trademark holder doing exactly what trademark law requires it to do: policing the commercial use of its marks before they become diluted or unenforceable.

The climate activist drag queen is accusing Patagonia of going against its "core mission."

I recently filed a complaint in Federal Court for the District of Massachusetts on behalf of a client who worked as a consultant in the cannabis startup space — a fast-growing industry where formalities don’t always keep pace with ambition.

The complaint alleges that my client performed substantial work on behalf of Blakthumb Corp., individuals Mel Fyfe and Carey Taylor, and other related entities in reliance on representations about compensation and the creation of a permanent role, but was never paid nor provided with any such role. It also raises questions about how multiple entities within the cannabis industry and their principals were operating behind the scenes.

We’ve filed suit to recover what is owed to my client. Defendants have not yet answered.
