Tip Tuesday: Pool Accidents & Summer Safety

As we kick off National Safety Month this June, it’s a good time to talk about pool safety.

Summer means pools are open—and unfortunately, pool accidents happen.

Watch Bill share some important pool safety tips. If you’re a pool owner, you have a responsibility to keep your property reasonably safe. When proper safety measures aren’t in place, serious injuries can occur, and in some cases, the property owner may be held responsible.

If you or your child is injured at a neighbor’s pool, a hotel pool, or a public pool, you may have a legal claim. Broken drain covers, missing fencing, inadequate supervision, or the absence of a required lifeguard can all create dangerous conditions. Every case is different, but an important question is whether the property owner took reasonable steps to keep the area safe.

Remember to document everything, take photos of the scene, and seek medical attention right away if you’re injured.

Tip Tuesday: Statute of Limitations

As we close out Motorcycle Awareness Month, watch Bill explain an important legal deadline every rider and driver should know: the statute of limitations.

The statute of limitations is the amount of time you have to file a lawsuit after an accident. If you miss the deadline, you can lose your right to recover compensation — no matter how strong your case may be.

In New York, you generally have 3 years to file a personal injury lawsuit. In New Jersey, you generally have 2 years. Investigations take time, medical treatment takes time, and evidence can disappear quickly. Don’t assume you have plenty of time after an accident.

If you’ve been injured, speak with an attorney as soon as possible so your rights are protected.

Tip Tuesday: Settlements

As we continue recognizing Motorcycle Awareness Month, today’s Tip Tuesday is about settlements and what they really mean in a personal injury case.

A settlement is an agreement to resolve a case without going to trial. In exchange for compensation, you release all legal claims related to the accident.

Most cases settle because trials are expensive, time-consuming, and unpredictable for both sides. A settlement may include compensation for medical bills, lost wages, future medical care, and pain and suffering.

One of the main reasons cases settle is to avoid risk, including the possibility of a verdict that does not fairly compensate the injured person.

Do not rush the process. Before accepting any settlement, make sure it properly accounts for your injuries, recovery, and future needs.

Tip Tuesday: No Fault Insurance

If you live in NY or NJ, you’ve probably heard the term “No Fault Insurance” but what does it actually mean?

After a car accident, your own insurance usually covers medical bills through Personal Injury Protection (PIP), no matter who caused the crash. But many people don’t realize no fault insurance does NOT cover everything, and there are strict deadlines to file a claim.

To bring a lawsuit for pain and suffering, you must meet the “serious injury” threshold under the law. Insurance companies count on people not understanding their rights.

During Motorcycle Awareness Month, it’s especially important to understand your rights and insurance coverage on the road.

Tip Tuesday: Seguro “No Fault”

Tip Tuesday: Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

As we celebrate Cinco de Mayo, let’s also recognize Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.

Motorcycle accidents often lead to serious injuries including road rash, broken bones, and traumatic brain injuries. Unfortunately, there’s often a bias against riders, with insurance companies quick to assume the motorcyclist was at fault.

If you’re a rider who’s been hit, don’t let them blame you unfairly. Your case deserves to be fully and fairly evaluated.

Tip Tuesday: UM/UIM

As we wrap up Distracted Driving Awareness Month, here’s something important to understand about your own insurance.

What happens if you get hit by a driver with no insurance? You’re not necessarily out of luck.

This is where your own insurance comes in. There’s a coverage called UM/UIM (Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist). If the person who hit you doesn’t have insurance or doesn’t have enough — your own policy can step in to protect you.

A lot of people don’t even know if they have this coverage.

Take a few minutes to check your policy and make sure you’re protected before something happens.

Tip Martes: Cobertura UM/UIM
