Today marks a significant milestone - twenty-two years since my official retirement from the NYPD. As I reflect on my journey, I'm reminded of the incredible colleagues and friends who empowered me to succeed. I'm forever grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside such remarkable individuals, and I'm proud of the positive impact we made together.

Thirty-three years ago today, my life, along with the lives of many New Yorkers and Americans, changed forever. This marked the first attack on the World Trade Center and the first attack on American soil by Islamic Fundamentalists.

On that tragic day, six individuals, including a pregnant woman, lost their lives, and thousands were injured when an improvised explosive device was detonated in the basement parking lot of the World Trade Center.

At the time, I was a Rookie Detective recently assigned to the NYPD Arson & Explosion Squad. My partner, Detective Tony Gonzales, was retiring that same day. This incident profoundly impacted my life and career.

I encourage everyone to take a moment today to remember and pray for these often forgotten victims of terrorism:
