Comprised of emerging professionals from the legal, financial, business and arts communities who have chosen the Society as one of their primary philanthropic commitments, New Leaders help the Society’s Civil Practice through annual fundraising, by acting as ambassadors for the mission of the Society and by participating in various community service and pro bono projects. Through the NLP, emerging

professionals can positively impact their community. Each membership gift supports a variety of clients, including senior citizens, children and adults with disabilities, survivors of domestic violence, immigrants, low-wage workers, persons living with HIV/AIDS, and homeless and imminently homeless children and adults. The Legal Aid Society is forced to turn away 8 out of every 9 New Yorkers seeking civil legal assistance because of lack of funding. With the help of New Leaders, the Society’s Civil Practice is able to assist more than 100,000 children and adults living at or below the poverty line in the five boroughs of New York City.
