iLoft ...for Fans of the Loft Loft - type of dwelling, converted for housing abandoned factory premises, other industrial buildings.

Loft word means "attic" in the U.S. so is also called the upper floor commercial premises or warehouse, but the style may be present in virtually any room.

"Loft" is a purely American origin and dates back to the factory buildings, warehouses and workshops. The idea of using abandoned factories for housing and office space has emerged in the forties in the factory district of Manhattan. Then the price of land in the city center went up - industrial enterprises began to withdraw to the outskirts. The vacated space occupied by artists willingly, attracted as functional characteristics of housing (high ceilings, good lighting), and low compared to conventional apartments, rental rates. Way up from shop to a stylish rooms, lofts were at the height of fashion in the 1950s. It was here that focuses artistic life of New York. Trendy lofts to artists offer their own gallery and studio. A textbook example - "Factory" Andy Warhol. Soon after the original dwelling permanently entrenched elite status. Remove large areas of the historic center, the buildings are already close to that for the prescription of years to get the status of architectural monument, the young artists was too expensive. They were replaced by successful lawyers and financiers.
