In Reston, Virginia, a patient set his smartphone to record pre-op instructions before a colonoscopy and forgot to turn it off. After the procedure, he discovered the device had captured the entire operation.

The audio showed the team making insulting remarks about his masculinity, health, and personal characteristics while he was under anesthesia.

In June 2015, a Fairfax County, Virginia jury awarded the patient $500,000—$100,000 for defamation, $200,000 for medical malpractice, and $200,000 in punitive damages. The case widely highlighted patient rights and professional conduct standards.

This man’s name is Kaleb Whitby, and he got the raw end of the deal in a 26 car pileup on the highway, with him being stuck between two massive trucks.

Incredibly, despite how awful this wreck seems—he was eventually cut out of the wreckage, and left with only minor injuries and scrapes.

It is easily one of the most incredible survivals ever recorded in the US. The car wrapped around him, with sharp metal coming within an inch of his body in several locations.

He was a lucky, lucky man. He should have bought a lottery ticket on the way home.

Online Injury Lawyers

A new player in the personal injury lawyers online marketplace has emerged...

Developed by a team of attorneys, paralegals and web developers, the newly-released website version of “Online Injury Lawyers” (onlineinjurylawyers.com) aims to enhance the client experience when searching for a personal injury law firm. Boosting the slogan “Empowering The Injured”, the site uses online bidding methods similar to eBay and LendingTree that allow a customer to electronically submit their product (in this case, their injury claim) for review by P.I. lawyers. “This is the future of lead generation as I see it” says J. E. Wingfield, Esq., a D.C. based P.I. lawyer with 40 years of experience settling and trying personal injury cases.

The site leaves little else that an attorney needs to review a case, everything is done online. All supporting case data (police reports, medical records, insurance documents, photos and videos, etc..) is uploaded into a private user account which is then provided to the participating firms in the area. This technology allows a very quick and confidential review of the case by local firms that in-turn rate the case as one they would or would not want to pursue. Discounted fees may be offered for high-value cases and higher than typical 1/3 fees for cases that lawyers otherwise would not want to pursue due to nominal value. “It’s quite a novel endeavour” stated Victor Ort, NY State Supreme Court judge about the new confidential case review model.
