Just returned from a great visit with the group at their annual Midwinter Ski and CLE in Snowbird, UT. I moderated a discussion on the Rule of Law with James Bassett, Class of 1978 and an associate Justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court, and Thomas Waterman, Class of 1981 and an associate Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court. Great people, great minds, great experience. Thanks to Gary Brooks for organizing the event, Jeff Carton our DLA president, and Neil Katyal, Class of 1991, for the keynote speech.

I am glad to be attending state-wide bar association meetings again and see old friends and make new ones. Last night I was elected treasurer of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and this morning began another term as a delagate to the New York State Bar Association. To my colleagues in the profession who are not members of a bar association, I encourage you to join one that matches your interest and advances the role of the lawyers in making ours a more perfect union.

Holy Trinity is having the 4th Annual Golf for the Good outing to benefit the Helping Hand Food Pantry, in Hillsdale, NJ. I have supported this important charity each year of the outing and I hope that my friends and peers with join me. The outing will be at the Phillip Rotella Golf Course in Haverstraw, New York on September 19, 2016. Last year many friends joined me and their generosity helped us raise nearly $3000 to buy food and supplies for those families who struggle to put food on their tables every day. I ask again for your support for this very worthy cause and some needy families. Feel free to contact me here with any questions. I thank you for those of you who supported this last year and hope that once again you can lead by example in doing good.

Few things in the world of criminal justice are more disheartening, more disgusting, than the Government cheating its citizens of honest services. Lack of transparency, and indeed a conspiracy to coverup abuses, puts all prosecutions in doubt. The Courts and the various state bars have the exclusive power to address this by holding cheaters accountable. Clearly, like any criminal, these individuals can not be expected to police their own.

Congratulations to one of my mentors Marvin Ray Raskin for receiving 2015 Public Service Award by the New York Law Journal as a "Lawyer Who Leads By Example" for all his hard work and his dedication to the justice system in NYC over three decades. He will be honored on October 14, 2015 at a dinner at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. Outstanding!

I am the chairman of a golf outing on September 21, 2015 at Emerson Golf Club (Emerson, New Jersey) to benefit the Helping Hand Food Pantry and the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church (of which I am on the vestry/board of directors). Both institutions are located in Hillsdale, New Jersey and are deeply involved in community outreach to assist people in need in the Pascack Valley region of Northern New Jersey. I would greatly appreciate if you would come to the outing with your friends and if your organization would become a sponsor at the event. As you can see from the attached brochure, there are many levels of support that would help me in making this event a success and therefore help people in need. I can discuss additional options for sponsorship opportunities, as well as promotional items (gift bag brochures, coupons for your organization, promotional materials, etc.) that would make your sponsorship more successful. If you can’t attend the outing, a sponsorship would still be really helpful to me. If you don’t play golf, you can come to the dinner with a date or friends and have a great time.
