Today, we celebrate Orange County Partner Joe Chairez. As a business trial attorney leading a litigation team that specializes in last-minute trials and complex insurance coverage litigation, he contributed to the $13.5 billion PG&E settlement for tort claimants. Joe expresses pride in the firm's celebration of cultured voices, believing heritage celebrations bring new perspectives that strengthen the firm and enhance its ability to serve clients locally and globally. Outside of work, Joe enjoys hiking and mountain climbing, inspired by volunteer work with the Orange County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, BakerHostetler pays tribute to the contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities with a spotlight on success.
Today, we celebrate Houston Counsel Erika Vela, for whom Hispanic Heritage Month is a chance to reflect on her own personal journey. As a member of the Digital Assets and Data Management Practice Group, she advises on national and global enterprise transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, licensing, AI, data privacy and cybersecurity. Investing in people is a personal joy for Erika, as she believes supporting, mentoring and rewarding individuals who provide talent and leadership elevates any organization. Erika Vela enjoys learning about new ideologies and exploring unfamiliar places, and she humorously notes she’s running out of continents to visit and celebrates her lineage and multiculturalism every day.
