Last night we had our regular scheduled board meeting. We recognized student achievement from multiple organizations, but also celebrated our State Champion UIL Computer Science Team! Congratulations to Mrs. Delta McFarland and her students for an AWESOME accomplishment! We also had an Elementary student, Liam Allen, who has Autism, who was able to name every country in the world. Board members pulled names of countries out of a bag, and he could identify all of them. It was great to see and showcase all the hard work our Special Education staff poured into their students.
Now, for a big one. In the 2027-2028 school year, Needville ISD will be moving from a small school model to a mid-size school model. By 2027-2028 school year we will have close to 4,000 students in the district. The biggest adjustment will be moving from NES, NMS to three KG - 5th grade campuses with the additon of our New Elem. School. (for the time being all Pre-K will attend the current NES). If growth remains steady with about 10 kids per grade level, we will have 6th - 8th grade at the new JH. All of this is proposed and could change based on numbers and staffing, but for now this is the path for our 2027-2028 school year. Preparing for the change in the next 15 months will take great care and planning. Attached is a picture of the new school zones. The main zoning that could change is the zone could move from Roesler to Needville-Fairchild depending on the amount and quickness of growth. The rest of the zones will more than likely stay the same.
Using this link and starting at the 2:16:53 mark you can see the zoning presentation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ct_LQS4n3Vk
These zones are 15 months away and are proposed. We don't have all the answers, but doing this allows us to begin planning for a major shift and transition. You may email me questions at [email protected] - Next year will still be PreK - 3rd at NES, 4th-6th at NMS, 7th-8th at the new Junior High and 9th-12th at NHS.
God Bless and Go Jays.
