Could you find your important documents in a hurry? 📄

When preparing for an emergency, don't forget about the paperwork you may need afterward.

Consider keeping important documents together in a safe, accessible place, including:

🪪 Identification
🏠 Housing or property documents
🛡️ Insurance information
💳 Important financial information
💊 Medication and medical information
📞 Emergency contact information

Paper copies can be helpful, and securely stored digital copies can provide an extra backup.

Disasters can create problems that last long after the immediate emergency has passed. Being prepared now can make recovery a little easier later.

As students across our communities head back to school, we’d like to take a moment to recognize our summer Legal Fellow, Emerson Silvernail!

Emerson joined DPLS this summer through the Rural Summer Legal Corps, gaining hands-on experience while traveling throughout our service area, visiting DPLS offices and tribal courts, and working alongside our team to help serve communities across South Dakota.

As Emerson heads back to law school, he shared a few reflections on his summer with DPLS.
