American Workers Are Benefitting from Immigration Enforcement by the Trump Administration

New data released last week by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) indicates that the number of employed U.S.-born workers increased by 830,000 in June 2025.

And that one-month jump in job gains for U.S.-born workers brings the total to more than 2 million since January 2025, when President Trump took office.

Meanwhile, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the number of foreign-born workers in the U.S. labor force declined by 601,000 between January and May of 2025.

And there's strong evidence to suggest that most of the foreign workers leaving the U.S. labor force have been illegal aliens.

In fact, according to some estimates, the overall illegal alien population of the United States fell by almost 1 million during the first five months of this year.

I’m not sure that’s accurate, but I hope so.

For more on this remarkable transformation of America's labor market, check out recent articles by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (or FAIR).

I'm Joseph Bovino, US immigration and business attorney based in Florida and serving clients worldwide who … respect and abide by America's laws.

U.S. Citizen Born in Mexico Charged with Naturalization Fraud for S*x Crimes

Breaking News—Anibal Rio Lavias, 30, a U.S. citizen born in Mexico, has been indicted for naturalization fraud because he lied about his sexual crimes against children while applying for U.S. citizenship.

Lavias became a naturalized U.S. citizen on May 4, 2018.

But during the naturalization process with USCIS, he failed to disclose his sexual offenses between February 2018 and February 2023, or that the victim was only 5 years old when the abuse began.

USCIS was unaware of Lavias' crimes before granting him citizenship because he was not arrested until after he naturalized.

However, on March 19, 2024, Lavias pleaded guilty to these crimes and was sentenced to between 300 and 420 months in jail.

Moreover, now that USCIS knows all about this guy and his crimes, Lavias faces up to 20 years in prison and revocation of his U.S. citizenship.

I'm Joseph Bovino, U.S. immigration and business attorney based in Miami and serving clients worldwide.

I fully support revoking the U.S. citizenship of criminals and fraudsters like this and hope to see a lot more of it in the coming years, but let me know what you think in the comments below.

Arguably the best visa for most foreign entrepreneurs with an American Dream—and Americans—is the E2 investor visa.

The E2 visa allows foreign entrepreneurs from approximately 80 “treaty” countries to enter the United States by making a substantial investment — typically at least $100,000 — in a startup enterprise or buying at least 50% of a franchise or an existing business, and then staying in the country to direct and develop its operations.

This inevitably leads to economic growth, innovation, and job creation in the United States.

Meanwhile, foreign entrepreneurs receive a nonimmigrant visa of up to 5 years that can be renewed indefinitely as long as their U.S. business continues to operate successfully.

Citizens of India, China, and Russia are ineligible to apply, by the way, unless they have dual citizenship with an E2 treaty country.

5 Investment Requirements of an E2 Visa in 2025

1. Make at least the minimum investment

US consular officials tend to scrutinize E2 visa applications far more closely if you don’t invest at least $100,000, more or less, in your new U.S. business.

2. Borrow wisely or not at all

You can borrow money for your E2 investor visa, but you can’t secure the loan with assets of your company.

You’re the investor, not your lender.

3. Take a risk

Your investment won’t count for E2 visa purpose unless there’s a risk of loss

4. Be active

Passive investments in real estate or stocks don’t qualify. Your E2 visa investment must be active and require you to run, develop and grow your business.

5. Invest before you apply

Your investment must be made, and your US business open or practically open, before you submit your E2 visa application for review.
