It wasn't where I had wanted to be, so I did some job hunting. I applied for a title searching job at US Title and was hired. Trained by an extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic title searching veteran, I grew to love the job and worked for them for five years before going independent. Hunched over a map, with my tri-scale ruler and my goniometer, piecing together legal descriptions, I find mapping fun! Sometimes it's like putting a puzzle together, depending on the complexity of the search. And when it all matches up, it's a good feeling. As an English major, who knew I'd be using geometry in my career! And, I even use algebra! When families deed out fractions of interest, there's another puzzle to put together to get the 100%. Title searching involves research that can go back 40, 60, 80, even 100 years; and, I love it. It is so interesting what one can find in old deeds and maps. And, not only do I enjoy the job, but I get exercise lifting those huge, ancient, dusty books and trays of microfilm! Many counties have a lot of documents now imaged, but there are still times to dig out the old. My education also comes in handy when I type letters and speak with my wonderful customers whom I appreciate tremendously. I use my proofreading skills as I transcribe the document numbers and details. In my free time, I really put it to use writing short-stories and novels. Residential, commercial, new construction, DOT work-- I'm a LIFER. At least until I publish a best seller or two. :-)
Yours truly,
Tracy
