Give 502

Give 502 We have awarded over $80,000 in just our first 4 years. All contributions are held at the Community Foundation of Louisville, a 501(c)3 registered nonprofit.

Give502 is a giving circle for young people in the Louisville community, where each member donates $502 that are pooled together to award one large collective-grant to a local non-profit each year. What is the goal of [give] 502?

• Recruit 100 young people, raise $50,000 and make a financial and volunteer investment in one local nonprofit per year

What is [give] 502?

• Individuals contribut

e $502 annually, pooling their gifts with other members of the giving circle

• Non-profits submit a simple application asking how organizations will spend $50,000 and engage 100 potential advocates/volunteers

• Members join committees based on giving focus areas to review applications and determine a finalist through site-visits and in-depth vetting of the organizations

• Members vote on the finalists May 2014

• Members and the non-profit recipient celebrate with an award ceremony in June 2014

How can I join?

• Members are required to contribute $502 by April 15th, reside in the Louisville/Southern Indiana region and be between the ages of 21 and 40. What does membership involve?

• Members get a hands-on and behind-the-scenes engagement with nonprofits who submit applications

• Members work collectively to decide the most important needs of the community

• Members meet others with a shared investment in making Louisville a better place

• Members grow as leaders and connect with change-makers in the community

• Members celebrate with others at the final voting and granting parties in Spring 2014

How do I pay/Can I pay my membership in installments?

• Make an online contribution through the Community Foundation of Louisville’s website (www.cflouisville.org)

• Set-up monthly payments through your bank directed to the Community Foundation of Louisville - noting [give] 502

• Corporate matching is welcome (up to 50% of the annual contribution)

Is my contribution tax deductible?

• Yes. Can I encourage nonprofits to apply?

• Yes. All members should encourage nonprofits they are familiar with to apply. However, [give] 502 members will not be assigned to review nonprofits they are affiliated with during the grant review process. What if a nonprofit I support isn’t selected?

• The winner will be decided by a vote of all eligible members of [give] 502. This may mean that an issue you are passionate about or a nonprofit you work with is not selected. The purpose of this giving circle is to enhance our community through philanthropic investments so each award will improve our community. Who founded [give] 502?
