🏡 Big news for the housing market: Baby Boomers & older generations own one-third of all U.S. housing wealth — that’s 29.6 million homes and $13.8 trillion in value!
According to a new NAHB analysis, this “Silver Tsunami” is coming… but it won’t hit every market the same. Florida retirement spots top the list for senior-owned homes, while many high-demand (and high-price) cities like NYC, LA, and San Diego have far fewer boomers ready to downsize.
Key takeaway? More inventory could open up in certain areas as boomers move or right-size — but experts say it’s more of a gently rising tide than a wave, especially with today’s rates and tax incentives keeping many in place.
The real fix? We still need more new construction to help younger buyers.
