🚗 Let’s talk about car titles...

I see a LOT of confusion when it comes to getting a vehicle title notarized, so here are a few things you need to know before you meet with me.

The seller’s signature is the signature that gets notarized, but that doesn’t mean you can just sign the title and hand it over.

The buyer’s full legal name and address need to be on the title, and all required disclosures need to be completed. We go through the title together and make sure everything that needs to be completed is filled out properly.

The seller’s name needs to be printed and signed exactly as it appears on the title.

🚨 OPEN TITLES ARE ILLEGAL.

Please do not ask me to notarize a title that has been signed by the seller with the buyer’s information left blank. That is not something I can do.

🪪 You also need a valid photo ID.

The signer has to personally appear before the notary, and I need to be able to properly verify their identity. Your ID needs to be unexpired and should match the name on the title.

And one more thing...

🚫 Please don't offer a notary extra money, dinner, gifts, etc. to “just do it anyway.”

A notary cannot be bribed into ignoring the requirements. I don't care if you're offering me $20, $50, dinner, or a million dollars 😂 — if it isn't legal, I'm not doing it.

💰 Notary fees in NC:

A notary can charge up to $10 per notarized signature, plus the applicable federal mileage rate for travel.

If you're being charged an additional convenience fee or another unauthorized fee for the notarization, that's not okay. You can report suspected violations to the NC Secretary of State.

My job isn't just to put a stamp on your title. My job is to make sure the notarization is done correctly.

So if you're selling a vehicle, bring your ID, bring the title, and we'll go through it together. ❤️
