Most of us won’t have an estate like Jimmy Buffett’s. He clearly planned with multiple trusts and unfortunately picked a trustee who seems to be stonewalling his widow (based on the allegations in the article).

➡️ Anyone creating a trust can designate a “trust protector” who can be given the power to remove an unruly trustee without going to court. It sounds like Buffett’s trust did not have such a provision. Your trust should have one!

Jimmy Buffett's widow Jane has filed to remove the co-trustee of her late husband's trust. A close family friend tells PEOPLE that "there's just no way that this is what he would have wanted to happen."

…then you already have an estate.
And it deserves to be protected.

Estate planning is about being prepared. It’s about making sure your assets go where you want, and that your loved ones aren’t left with confusion, court delays, or costly mistakes.

Did you know that part of estate planning is designating guardians for your children in case something were to happen to you and your partner? Choosing permanent (and temporary) guardians for our five children was one of the most compelling reasons for me to work on my own estate plan. Planning for the unthinkable doesn't mean it will happen, but it does mean you will be prepared if it does (and more importantly, your children will be covered).

Both had a modest $50,000 to leave to their children. But because one family had an estate plan and the other didn’t, their c...
